A Chicken and a Boy…

Today was the pick day of the week weather wise.  It was wonderfully breezy and about 80 degrees.  We spent a good chunk of the day playing outside with the chickens.  Danny and Betsy really seemed like two little children playing in the dirt instead of a little boy and a chicken.  Betsy wanted to show Danny that she knew how to scratch in the dirt just like him.

Betsy wondering why Danny uses a stick in the dirt instead of his foot.

The girls really enjoyed laying around in the shade today with a nice gentle breeze blowing.

The girls just hanging out.

The past few days have seen me chopping, chopping, chopping, and CHOPPING…and then canning.  I canned corn, green beans, beets, tomatoes, and strawberry jam.  I feel like I am becoming a regular city farmer here.  I think it all started with the chickens.  My husband says I am a throw back to his mother and grandmother’s time and it brings back good memories for him.

Canned tomatoes!

Spicy Pickled Beets!

I hope to go apple picking at Eckert’s Orchard when the season opens soon to can some apples and applesauce.

I hope everyone was able to enjoy the beautiful weather today!

Cluck, cluck y’all!
